Volunteer for the frontline – trained volunteers save lives in emergencies and natural disasters.

Volunteer firefighters

Emergency services volunteers save lives and property and help people get back on their feet after natural disasters and other emergencies.

You can help on the frontline by fighting fires or undertaking rescues or administering first aid, provided you are properly trained to cope with the emergency.

You can also provide essential support to volunteers in the field through emergency management, communications, administration, fundraising and catering.

All organisations ensure volunteers are qualified to cope with any disaster they may face. Some of the organisations which may need your help include:

Emergency services for our diverse communities
Emergency services recognise that our local Australian communities are diverse. That means we need Aboriginal people and people from different cultural and language backgrounds as volunteers to help us provide the best possible help in an emergency.

The State Emergency Services (SES), for example, have partnered with Adult and Community Education to deliver the Diversity in Volunteering Program.

To date, 100 Aboriginal people and 25 people from migrant communities have participated and 50 SES members have received cultural awareness training to equip them to work with these new volunteers.
