Education
Your local preschools and schools welcome volunteers and rely on help from the community for many activities.
You don't need to be a parent of a student to volunteer in the education sector.
At school
You might want to read stories or play with young children at pre-school or you could help out with a local playgroup. In infants and primary schools, volunteers help with reading and numeracy programs, excursions and working bees and the running of the school canteen or sports and music groups.
In high schools, volunteers help in canteens, act as mentors, help with sport days and inter-school sports and other activities like the performing arts.
Parents and citizens associations (P&Cs)
All our schools need interested, engaged volunteers for P&C, social activities, fund-raising and school development activities.

Promoting Aboriginal culture and heritage
Every year, about 10,000 Australian school students visit the Muru Mittigan Aboriginal Cultural and Education Centre west of Sydney - where visitors can do everything from throwing a boomerang, to learning a didgeridoo to trying bush tucker and listening to dreamtime stories.
Muru Mittigan, "Pathway to Friends" in the Darug language aims to advance Aboriginal culture, foster links with non-Indigenous Australians and visitors and provide meaningful employment for Aboriginal Australians.
