Volunteering with Charities

There are many charities in NSW that rely on the active participation of volunteers. These charities offer opportunities in many different areas such as fundraising, management and committee work, advocacy and directly assisting clients.

Check your local council’s website or try contacting some of the organisations listed below. The NSW Government’s Local Council Search page. This page will be able to identify all the local councils in NSW.

Major Australian Charities is a site listing major charities and lists volunteer opportunities across Australia by geographic location.

St Vincent de Paul is assisted by almost 20,000 volunteers in NSW and the ACT.

Red Cross provides opportunities for volunteers to contribute to the humanitarian efforts of Red Cross in NSW.

Mission Australia offers volunteering opportunities in areas such as mentoring, literacy and numeracy tutoring, community support, fundraising, counselling, administration and event assistance

The Smith Family has a range of roles such as mentoring, supervising homework clubs, performing specialised skilled roles within the organisation and traditional activities such as packing hampers at Christmas time.

The Benevolent Society advertises current volunteering opportunities by type and location across NSW.

Anglicare has volunteers who work in areas such as supporting the socially isolated, young mothers’ playgroups, disaster relief , foster care, migrant support and ESL teaching.
